Jobs and Migration

Today in class we talked about Immigration, job loss/gain and hard workers. We talked about how some of us believe foreign workers are better workers than most Americans because they appreciate the jobs more and they need the money for their families back home and they do not want to lose any work they can have. We also talked about Migration so even though our Fertility rate is below the average, 2.1, our population is still not going lower because of the migration we recieve. We haven't gotten our test back and I'm hoping I did well. I'm feeling pretty well on it and I think I'm good. My mid quarters are pretty good.

Finishing the test... (Monday)

Today in class we finished up our essays on the test and I was pretty happy with the grade I got on the question part of my quiz. We then continued to open a new section and start talking about population stats. We also talked about how undeveloped countries are having the most population rise rather than established countries. Countries like Germany and other "established countries" birth rate is actually lowering so they need a bigger work force of younger people. Todays class was interesting all in all and I'm sure we'll like this new Unit, chapter, section, or whatever its called.

A test and a fire drill

Today in class we worked on a test which was rudely interrupted by a fire drill in which we almost got soaked because the field sprinklers were on. I feel good about the test and hope to finish the last line of my essay on monday and get the best grade as I can. So hopefully everything goes well on Monday and there wont be a Suprise fire drill.

9/18/13

We presented some of our projects to the class about globalization. It took up most of the class time and they brought up some good points. Like how globalization could be credited to a portion of terrorism because Muslim cultures do not want American culture or influence spreading to them. They also brought up how Globalization improves the economy really well and it has reduced Chinas poverty rate by a lot and so this is proof of globalizations economic abilities.

Nike and Indonesia

Today in class we went further into the nike sweatshops in Indonesia. We talked about how their public image was being ruined when all these factories were being covered. We also worked on our powerpoint about globalization at the end of the class. nike's stocks would drop whenever their image was bad so they had to try and make it look like they were improving situations. Releasing quota "company documentS" and other documents showing how Indonesians were happy to have these jobs. We also learned how Nike brought in military officers to make Indonesians sign papers to work less than the minimum wage.

Behind the swoosh

9/17/2013 Today we looked at a short film called behind the swoosh. It was mainly about nike using Indonesia as a cheap labor source and how the people could barely live and were suffering. Jim tried to talk to many people in Nike, even the CEO and they all acted hostile and ignored him. Jim and his friend Leslie tried to show the corruption by living as an Indonesian worker and filming there experience. They now travel around the world speaking to different schools advocating for justice.

9/11/13

Today we continued research on globilization and how other countries are starting to speak English more and how they are teaching their kids from a early age to learn foreign languages as well as their own. The work continues on globilization.

9/10/13

Today we talked about globalization which is how American culture mainly is being spread to other countries like Japan and how Mcdonalds are spreading to other countries and other stuff from us. Also how English is the language of business so other countries are learning English do that's even more globalization.

Human Geo Reason I was not at class AND Fridays post

First I would like to start off with (sorry for forgetting last Fridays blog) I was visiting my dad throughout the weekend and in all honesty I did not get enough sleep before Monday and by the time I woke up it was already 12 pm 9/6/13 post My Initial reaction to the video was obviously surprised. I was surprised about the loads of information that I was being rushed with an the fast paced video made it seem like even more information than it really was simply because I couldn't take all of it in, fast enough. The changes is going to effect my life a lot, although I'm not really sure how China speaking English will effect me, I do believe that Americans will lose some jobs to foreign individuals (Not trying to imply any racism) but I believe America will retain some jobs for their citizens. Technology takes a huge role not only in my life but everyone in the worlds. I can guarantee that unless you're working as a farmer (even they use technology) you at-least have to use one piece of technology In your life. Technology is a part of the modern world of business, mining, and you name it. It is the future and whether we like it or not it can be used as a social,buisness/work/information tool.

Human Geo 9/4/13

Today, we talked about a lot of interesting things. While going slightly off topic on the discussion of Syria and Rome, today was a very interesting class. We talked more about the death of Socrates and how the method of death he had took a very long time to die. We also talked about the court in which Socrates was founded guilty, possibly due to his witty and sassy responses. We also mentioned that Socrates could have escaped easily, but he stayed to die because Athens had convicted him and he did not want to ruin the system of democracy and make an example. We examined the "Death of Socrates" painting and pointed out several details and debated over them. One such example is Socrates finger pointing in the air, which we debated over. We talked about how he could be making an example, possibly referring to a god like Zeus, or just overall looking buff before he dies. Class was very interesting today and I'm sure we'll discuss Socrates more.

Reason I was not at school today

My dad was having a surgery on his stump [knee] and so I was not able to make it and I wanted to be there for it.
